A few weeks ago a young male Ring-necked Duck was found at Lodmoor, the first time one of these North American ducks has been seen in the area for several years. This week it turned up at Radipole.
The last shot shows the different shape of the flank patch on the Ring-necked Duck compared with a Tufted Duck.
If this duck stays until it moults into adult plumage, it should look like this one, photographed at WWT Slimbridge.
Although I didn't manage to get any video of the bird, I was stood next to someone who did, the author of the Youtube Channel Jurassic Coast Wildlife Detectives.
