On the day the Bonaparte's Gull turned up on Portland, I was busy filming spoonbills at Radipole Lake.
Then it got closer.
And closer.
Finally it was joined by a second bird.
At the end of this video, notice how the spoonbill takes care to leave the lake before it defecates.
Spoonbills always do this.
Both birds were in breeding plumage, with crests, yellow throats and yellow breast patches.
So perhaps we might see a new colony in Dorset soon.
