My quest to see all of the UK's butterflies took me to the Lake District this year, where a small dark butterfly can be seen for a few days each summer high up on the grassier fells.
The small mountain ringlet is our only high-altitude butterfly, a relict from the end of the last ice age when much of the UK was in arctic conditions.
Here is a better photo of one.
Not far away down in the valley near Eskdale was this gorgeous small pearl-bordered fritillary, a far more widely-distributed species but now very rare in Dorset.
For comparison here is a very similar pearl-bordered fritillary that I filmed last year in the New Forest.
This species is now extinct in Dorset.
