Starting at the end of Old Castle Road we managed to find a good range of birds in the harbour including Mergansers, Mediterranean Gulls, Great-crested Grebes and a Slavonian Grebe. |

Next we walked north along the Rodwell Trail looking at the variety of trees and shrubs that have arrived since the line was last used. Most were Sycamore and Ash but we also found Holm Oak, Yew, Beech and Bullate Cotoneaster. A patch of flowering Winter Heliotrope were memorable for the intense fragrance they gave off. |
The shady Rodwell Cutting produced a few interesting fungi including Jew's Ear and Varicoloured Bracket. |

The best bird of the afternoon waited until just before we started back when a Sparrowhawk appeared just in front of us as we were enjoying the view over Weymouth from the embankment above Marsh Road. |
