Radipole Lake RSPB Reserve, Monday February 4th 2013

Plenty of birds today starting with a colour-ringed lesser black-backed gull on the car park. The ring number has been reported to the Euring website and I will add a note here when I hear back from them.

Lesser Black-backed Gull Green FACC
This gull was ringed in 2008 as an adult on the island of Texel off the coast of the Netherlands. At the time it was fitted with a transmitter which revealed that it spent the summer of 2008 on the island. Field observations by birdwatchers showed that it moved a short distance to Belgium in the winter and returned to Texel in 2009. In the following winter it travelled as far as west Cornwall, returning to Texel again in the summer of 2010. It was not seen at all in 2011 but was back at Texel again in 2012, after which it moved on to Belgium in November and then to Radipole in 2013.
