Dorset Walks

Thursday October 27th
Church Ope Cove and Penn's Weare

Trip Report

We chose the warmest October 27th ever for our monthly visit to this lovely part of Portland.
The walk down Church Ope Lane produced the sighting of the day in the shape of a gorgeous male Brambling feeding in the Sycamores next to Chuch Ope Cafe. Another visitor from the north, this time a Siskin, flew over calling but could not be seen.

The walk along the disused railway line was made in beautifully warm sunshine even though the southerly wind was strong enough to blow in a number of Razorbills which could be seen flying along the coastline just offshore. Overhead a pair of Ravens appeared, enjoying the updraughts and taking the opportunity to indulge in their favourite pastime of rolling in the air. A Peregrine joined them briefly before making a spectacular dive towards the shoreline.

Back at the car park a Goldcrest could be heard calling in the trees.
