Reaching the open land around the railway line will give us the chance to see Wheatears and perhaps a Whinchat or two. Autumn migrants include a large proportion of inexperienced first-year birds which may have wandered far from their normal migration routes. These could include species not normally seen in Britain such as Desert Wheatears from the Middle East.
We'll keep an eye on the skies as this is peak raptor migration time and if we're lucky we could see a passing Buzzard, Marsh Harrier or even an Osprey. Red Kites are becoming more common in England and will be spreading south in September looking for suitable wintering areas. Marsh Harrier overhead
