Dorset Walks

Thursday March 16th       Portland Bill

Seabirds Special

We'll be birdwatching again just as the seabirds start their migration.
From the Bill car park (don't forget to buy a ticket) we'll walk through the Bill Quarry out to the point. The quarry or the Admiralty compound often holds a Black Redstart at this time of year. Black Redstart

We'll spend some time looking out to sea waiting for migrating seabirds to fly past. Manx Shearwaters or Arctic Skuas are possible with Gannets a virtual certainty.
Next we'll walk north (we'd best not walk south!) along the Westcliffs to look at the seabird colony. Guillemots and Razorbill should be on the cliffs and hopefully we might see one of the last remaining Portland Puffins. Puffin and Guillemot

Returning across the Admiralty Slopes we should be hearing Skylarks all around us and may find an early Wheatear or two. Stonechats are regular visitors here.
